Civil Rights Must Never Be Compromised

Recently, the Obama Administration has taken yet another turn towards the right when they chose to back a proposal to create an exception to the requirements over reading a suspect their rights under the Miranda v United States ruling.

When the constitution was written, many of the architects of this document would agree that giving up your rights and freedoms in exchange for the illusion of security would be foolish, and it wouldn't work. The only thing that would be gained is the undermining of the rights that the constitution was created to protect.

I find it to be one of the greatest of ironies that Obama, a constitutional lawyer who got his degree from one of the most prestigious law schools in the world, has found it so easy to sell out his fellow citizens.

His lack of courage and determination in the face of adversity is shameful. His lack of conviction and faith in our system is borderline on the criminal. His continuation of Bush policies that served to undermine the civil rights of American's combined with this latest move to undermine Miranda should be the last straw for Democrats and Independents alike.

It's a terrible shame that Obama has turned out to be such a weak leader when America so desperately needed a stronger one. After the eight years of Bush, we were all hoping that he would be more than he turned out to be. But, that's a discussion for another day.

I must strongly encourage you to write a letter to the White House telling him that giving up our rights is more of a threat to our rights and our security than any terrorist cell could ever be. If he doesn't believe this to be true, then he needs to go in 2012.
